All programs under Liwaayda are devoted to honoring our traditional way of life as stewards to the land, water, culture and people.
Traditional Ts'msyen meals are served to our elders of Metlakatla. Sitting down to a traditional meal and learning from our elders creates meaningful moments and memories for all our youth, our elders and for everyone who helps make our Elder's Dinners a success. We will begin our Elder's dinner when our communities overcome Covid-19.
LIWAAYDA DANCE GROUP
The Liwaayda Dancers meet every week in the Metlakatla, Alaska communities Longhouse. Together we honor the roles of our ancestors through our traditional songs and dance. Our dance group welcomes anyone willing to strengthen the identify of our youth and who is willing to teach strong values and cultural teaching to the next generation.
WORKSHOPS AND PRESENTATIONS
Through our hosted events and presentations we use our stories, humor, drumming, and native flute playing to engage audiences of all ages with emphasis on reaching at-risk youth. We travel throughout the State of Alaska and the lower 48 giving schools, youth homes and many other organizations the tools, courage, and self-respect to make positive changes in the lives, their homes, and their community.
It is important to pass on our knowledge to the next generation. Join us for one of our harvesting events as we not only teach how to harvest our traditional foods but also the important of taking only what we need and using all that we take.
